The Stationery Obsession - Where it All Began

The Stationery Obsession - Where it All Began

My niece attended a birthday party and was given a party bag and the best thing from the bag (obviously that’s my opinion the kids loved the whole bag) was the crayon pencil below:

I absolutely loved this pencil when I was young and it then inspired me to write a blog about my journey though stationery in decades

Up to Age 11

Whenever it was someones birthday our Primary school gave each student a beautiful blue pencil which I believe had engraved ‘Happy Birthday’.  I may still have a pencil in the loft, note to self go pencil hunting. At such at a young age I loved stationery!

Since I was very young my family have always thought of me as a rubbish collector as I used to buy and collect a lot of ‘free’ stationery – the best item was from Argos – their pens and order forms!!!

11 to 16

When I started high school you had to have your own stationery and I remember my mum taking me and my sisters to Woolworths to choose our pencil case and stationery it was one of many memories I have for stationery shopping!

Before I started high school we visited Kenya where my grandparents lived and I remember my uncle taking me stationery shopping where I purchased exercise book covers and I remember feeling estatic as I felt no one else in the class would have these! I still have a few in the loft!

I can’t remember when in high school it was when I was bought the pack of 10 colourful biros but all I remember was it was the best day ever! I still remember how for so many years I would buy them from Woolworths at 99p! My homework was the most colourful ever!

During a business studies class at high school I remember my first stationery swap with my class fellow Leanne in which I gained a very cool Staedtler blue biro pen.

During my time in high school stationery was a must and regular trips to Staples, Woolworths was often as pens were lost way to often!

Age 16 -22

In college I studied IT – stationery became less used but I just started earning my own money so purchasing stationery became a must! My best friend would ask me in college ‘do you need that’- where I would answer with a positive ‘YES’!!

During university – there was a few stationery shops including in the University shop which I used to go often to top up in my free time!

Post Studying - Now (30’s)

I have always loved stationery but last year after speaking to my colleagues in the IT department is when I was advised to take it to the next level and start blogging! Due to time constraints it isn’t always easy to blog regularly but I am definitely aiming this year to blog frequently than last year!

All these memories I have of stationery I never ever thought that I would actually blog about it and find a stationary loving community!

I was always a bit shy telling people I loved stationery and now I am happy to shout it out, as there are lots of us.  We do not need help, we just need more pens.
